General FAQ

GreenGuard Gold Certification

GreenGuard Gold Certification is an independent and internationally recognized certification program that focuses on indoor air quality and product emissions. It is administered by UL Environment, a division of Underwriters Laboratories.

The GreenGuard Gold Certification sets stringent standards for products that are designed for use in indoor environments, such as building materials, furniture, and printing materials. The certification ensures that the certified products have low chemical emissions, promoting healthier indoor air quality and reducing the potential for chemical exposure.

To achieve GreenGuard Gold Certification, products undergo rigorous testing and evaluation to determine their chemical emissions in simulated real-life conditions. The testing takes into account various factors such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), formaldehyde, and other potentially harmful chemicals.

By obtaining the GreenGuard Gold Certification, products demonstrate their commitment to environmental sustainability and the well-being of those who use them. This certification provides confidence to consumers that the product has met strict criteria for indoor air quality and contributes to healthier indoor environments.

What are your minimum artwork requirements?

As a Trade-Only printer, we require print ready artwork. While certain products may have more specific requirements, all artwork must meet these basic requirements:

  • PDF format
  • Actual size (we do not adjust size)
  • All fonts converted to outlines
  • All images embedded
  • Less than 150MB in size

Can you print in RGB?

No. Files submitted to us in RGB will have to be converted to CMYK in order to print.

RGB is an additive process that uses Red, Green, and Blue light to achieve a color. It is considered additive because one must add all three colors together to achieve white. It is used for Monitors, TV's, Phone Screens, etc. Unfortunately, it is not physically possible to print in RGB because mixing Red, Green, and Blue ink (pigment) would actually create a kind of brown color, not white as it does with the light in your computer monitor.

CMYK, on the other hand, is considered a subtractive process because, in order to get white, one must remove all color to allow the white to show through from the substrate material underneath it all.

It's also important to consider that RGB has many more color possibilities than CMYK. Never will colors on your monitor or screen match printed CMYK colors exactly. If color matching is critical, we suggest you note Pantone Solid Uncoated Colors in your file and job notes. With these colors, we can compare the printed graphics to our Pantone Book Standards here and get as close as possible.

How can I reduce my file size to be under the 150MB limit for upload?

Reducing the file size of PDF graphics can be achieved through several methods. Here are some effective techniques to help you reduce the file size:

  1. Adjust Compression Settings: Most PDF editing software allows you to adjust compression settings for images within the PDF. You can lower the image quality or resolution to reduce the file size. However, keep in mind that excessive compression can result in a loss of image quality.

  2. Crop or Resize Images: If the images in your PDF are larger than necessary, consider cropping or resizing them to reduce their dimensions. Smaller images will result in a smaller file size.

  3. Remove Unnecessary Elements: Analyze your PDF and remove any unnecessary elements like hidden layers, hidden objects, or redundant images. Streamlining the content will help reduce the file size.

  4. Convert to a Lower Resolution: If high-resolution graphics are not essential for your PDF's purpose, consider converting them to a lower resolution. For example, if your graphics are at 300 dpi (dots per inch), you can try reducing them to 150 dpi or even 72 dpi, depending on your needs.

  5. Convert to a Different Image Format: If your graphics are in formats such as TIFF or BMP, which tend to have larger file sizes, consider converting them to more efficient formats like JPEG or PNG. JPEG is suitable for photographs, while PNG is better for graphics with transparency.

  6. Use Compression Tools: Utilize online or desktop compression tools designed specifically for reducing PDF file sizes. These tools optimize the PDF's internal structure, remove unnecessary metadata, and compress the images further without significant quality loss.

  7. Flatten Layers: If your PDF contains layered graphics, flattening them can reduce the file size. This process merges the layers into a single image, eliminating the need to store individual layer data.

Remember to always make a backup copy of your original PDF before applying any modifications to ensure you can revert to the original file if needed. Additionally, consider finding a balance between file size reduction and maintaining acceptable image quality for your specific requirements.

To divide a large image into overlapping panels in Photoshop, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open your image in Photoshop.
  2. Ensure that the rulers are visible by going to "View" in the menu and selecting "Rulers." Alternatively, you can use the shortcut key "Ctrl+R" (Windows) or "Command+R" (Mac).
  3. Click and drag from the horizontal ruler to the desired position on your image to create a horizontal guide. Repeat this process to create additional horizontal guides at the intervals where you want the panels to overlap.
  4. Repeat step 3, but this time create vertical guides to define the panel boundaries.
  5. Select the "Slice Tool" from the toolbar. If you don't see it, right-click on the "Crop Tool" and select the "Slice Tool" from the menu.
  6. Click and drag over the first panel, following the guides you created. Photoshop will create a slice based on the selected area.
  7. Repeat step 6 for each panel, making sure that they overlap according to your desired configuration.
  8. Once all the panels are defined, go to "File" in the menu and select "Save for Web." Alternatively, you can use the shortcut key "Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S" (Windows) or "Command+Option+Shift+S" (Mac).
  9. In the "Save for Web" dialog box, choose the desired file format and adjust any additional settings if needed. Ensure that the "Slices" option is selected.
  10. Click the "Save" button and choose the destination folder to save the sliced panels.

By following these steps, you can divide your large image into overlapping panels in Photoshop and save them as separate files, ready for further processing or use.

To divide a large image into overlapping panels in Adobe Illustrator, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open your image in Illustrator.
  2. Create rectangular shapes that will serve as the boundaries for your overlapping panels. You can use the Rectangle Tool (M) from the toolbar to draw the shapes.
  3. Align and position the rectangular shapes over the image to define the panel boundaries. Ensure that they overlap according to your desired configuration.
  4. With all the rectangles selected, go to the "Object" menu and choose "Clipping Mask" and then "Make" (or use the shortcut "Ctrl+7" or "Command+7").
  5. The rectangles will now act as clipping masks for the image, dividing it into separate panels.
  6. To save each panel as a separate file, you can use the "Export for Screens" feature in Illustrator. Go to the "File" menu, choose "Export," and then "Export for Screens."
  7. In the "Export for Screens" dialog box, select the desired file format, destination folder, and any additional settings you require. Make sure the "Use Artboards" option is checked.
  8. Click the "Export" button, and Illustrator will save each panel as a separate file based on the artboards.

By following these steps, you can divide your large image into overlapping panels in Illustrator and save them as separate files, ready for further use or processing.

Can you match a color exactly?

Unfortunately, no. While acceptable matches can usually be achieved, exact color matches cannot be guaranteed. Every printer and process has limitations to their color gamut. Satin digital CMYK generally has the smallest color gamut of all print methods. We recommend using Pantone Solid Uncoated Colors when trying to match a digitally printed graphic; these colors end in "U"  (e.g., 249U or 4675U).

Contour Cutting: What is it?

Contour Cutting is the process of cutting along the edges of a printed design shape. While this process is relatively simple for rectangular shapes, it becomes more complicated when you add curves and lines of other more complex objects, cutting out the shape of a person, for example.

WG Printers is proud to use a Summa digital cutter for everything that we produce in the shop. Summa machinery allows us the freedom to offer you nearly any shape imaginable.

Why do you have a maximum size on your products?

Our printers cutters, and even our material are all optimized to run the most common sizes of signs and stickers. We are unable to produce products that are larger than our equipment‘s maximum capacity.

Wholesale printing means that WG Printers only trades with other sign shops, print shops, marketing companies, designers and/or anyone who has a sellers permit and resells the printed product we provide.

As a wholesale customer, we will not charge you sales tax and our print prices are generally lower compared to retail prices.

Sales tax is the customers responsibility to charge to their clients at the proper rate within your state/county.

No. We only print for approved clients who resell to an end users. The end user is NOT considered our client.

WG Printers fully complies and respects the privacy of your clients.

In order for us to produce your order same day, the order and correct files must be submitted by 10am. If the file is received after this time, your order will be produced and ready to ship / will call the following business day.

We pride ourselves in providing fast service to our clients! However, in order to meet your deadline, we do have necessary cut off times.

SAME DAY:

  • 10am Cut-off -
  • Orders will be ready for pickup EOD (3pm-5pm)
  • Same day generally has a 100% Rush fee

NEXT DAY:

  • Orders placed next day will be ready THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY and ready for will call / ship bertween 3pm-5pm
  • Next Day generally has a 35% rush fee

Please keep in mind when choosing same day/next day that the artwork must be print ready. If there are any proofs selected understand this may push the job back 1-2 business days depending on proof approval etc..

We generally try to meet everyones expectations. However, that is not always possible as some jobs or product may come with limitations and imperfections.

When will we NOT reprint for free...

We don't check for spelling or resolution/pixelation issues, we will print and produce every job with an understanding that the customer is aware of these issues and approved to proceed.

No sign is perfect,  we allow for very small imperfections within a print to be passable and acceptable such as small debri under vinyl, slight banding, minor misalignment, slightly imperfect cuts...

When will we reprint at our expense...

Anytime we print on the wrong material, when a mounted sign is clearly misaligned beyond our acceptable rate, have significant (multiple) debri under the vinyl, when banding is visible beyond our acceptable rate.

With all that said... we care about our customers and appreciate all the work we receive! If there are any major concerns with your product, please feel free to email or call us and we will be more than happy to figure something out to resolve the issue.

If my design isn't a perfect square or rectangle, how do I determine the size to select from the Size dropdown menu when ordering?

Pricing is based on size. If you draw an imaginary rectangle around your shape, that would be the width & height of your product. The entire decal (including the vector cut path) must fit within this rectangle.

Do you offer install services for vinyl?

No, we do not offer installation services. Application and installation of our vinyl is the sole responsibility of the end-user of the product. If you need help with applying vinyl, the video below will walk you through the process.

What are raster images?

Raster images are made up of a fixed number of dots (or pixels) and may be scaled down (to a point) but may not be scaled up (i.e., made larger than the original size) without loss of image quality.

What is the difference between vector art and a raster image?

raster image (such as a photo) sized to 600x800 pixels is made up of 600 pixels (or small dots) across and 800 pixels from top to bottom. Trying to make this photo larger will only stretch those pixels, not add more, thereby losing the crispness of the original image.

Vector art is made from a series of mathematical curves, points, and paths. Because vector art is not comprised of a certain number of dots (like raster images), it can be resized larger or smaller without loss of image quality due to it's mathematical base: the curves, paths, and points are simply recalculated to express the new size.

An infographic explaining the properties of raster images vs vector art.

Can I send a raster image for full color products?

While we prefer vector artwork for digitally printed (full color) items as card card-body, as long as your raster image is high quality, large enough to print (i.e., the same size as your finished product), and saved as a PDF in a vector art program such as Adobe Illustrator, we will accept it.

Can I send a Photoshop file?

We do not accept Photoshop files for print as Photoshop is a raster image editing program. If you do not have vector art, we will accept a very high quality .jpeg or .png, but it must still be embedded into a vector art program and saved as a PDF.

What type of material can you use with grommets?

Just about any type of material we offer! With the more rigid substrates (such as 6mm PVC), we do this by pre-drilling a hole before we actually place the grommet. This process is a little more labor-intensive, and therefore a little more costly, but it is possible.

Where do you put the grommets?

For Rigid substrates, such as 4mm corrugated plastic, unless grommet placement is specified in the design file, we will install the grommet, on center, 1" away from the edges of your sign. If you do specify, place small, 1/8" dots in your design file and leave us a note so we are aware.

We always suggest grommets be placed 1" away from the edges of your sign.

For materials such as banners, which generally come standard with grommets, we will place grommets near the edge and space them every 2 to 3 feet along the edge of your sign.

Our shipping charges are based on the rates charged by the carrier, as they may vary from time to time. Saturday delivery is available at an additional charge. Please contact our shipping department for more information regarding Saturday shipping. All orders are shipped FOB shipping point, which means ownership and risk of loss transfers to you once we deliver the order to our shipping carrier. If you elect to pick up your order, ownership and risk of loss will transfer to you when you (or your agent) take possession of the order. If you take advantage of our local delivery option, ownership and risk of loss will transfer to you when you (or your agent) accept delivery, or when we leave the order if delivery without a signature has been authorized.

Unfortunately, we cannot use a customer's personal account with UPS.

The estimated delivery time for any given shipment will vary according to the method of shipping you choose and/or by your location. Please note that although we strive to meet the estimated delivery times, because we use a third-party shipping service, we are not able to guarantee a specific delivery date or time. If you have time sensitive materials, please make sure you allow sufficient time to receive your order.

If you select a shipping service level other than Standard Shipping the delivery date will correspond to the service level chosen. Again, the delivery date does not include the day of pickup. If you select the relevant shipping carriers 3 Day, 2nd Air Day, Next Day Air, or some other special delivery level (or their equivalent) this means that the shipper is guaranteeing its shipping service within the time period selected. Note that only these special accelerated shipping services are guaranteed within the time frames given. Standard Shipping is NOT guaranteed to deliver within the estimated arrival time.

Your estimated shipping time is in addition to the order turnaround time you selected during the order process. Add the turnaround time and estimated shipping time together to estimate the actual delivery date. Click here for the turnaround time choices.

Our shipping process cannot generally accommodate the aggregation of multiple print orders for shipping purposes; each discrete product ordered will be shipped separately, will require a separate shipping charge, will have its own estimated shipping time, and may arrive on a different date to other products you have ordered. If you are ordering multiple products, it is possible that these may also require different production times and the estimated shipping time may vary for each separate product. If you are ordering a specially priced package of products, there will be only one shipping charge incurred, however, the individual products may be shipped separately and arrive at different times. If the receipt of multiple products is time sensitive, please plan accordingly as we cannot guarantee that multiple product orders will be received on the same delivery date.

Our carriers generally do not ship to a Post Office box, it is your responsibility to verify that an actual street address has been entered, and that it is the correct and accurate address (including zip code) for your delivery. We strongly recommend that you include a telephone contact number in your shipping information. We are not responsible for any delays, losses or increased delivery charges caused by mistaken or incorrect delivery addresses. We are not responsible for any delays or losses of product once the product is delivered to the carrier for shipment.

Please verify that your payment information has been correctly entered. Shipments may be delayed because of improper credit card information and we are not responsible for any delay or loss associated with this. Holidays may affect and delay your shipping times. Please take holidays into account when estimating your package delivery time.

If a package is not delivered due to a customer refusal (which would include a failure to pick up the product from the carrier, if applicable) or an error made by the customer, e.g., not submitting the proper shipping address, it may cause the package to be reshipped (with the corrected address if applicable), and you will be charged an additional shipping fee for this reshipment. You may also incur additional fees as a result of the inability of the carrier to deliver the order, as well as return fees. Even if you decline to have a product reshipped, you will continue to be responsible for the product cost, original shipping and any additional fees incurred as a result of the product being returned, and you consent to these fees being charged against the credit card used for the transaction.

If, after placing an order, you wish to change the shipping address you may do so up until the time the order is out for delivery. Each time that you request that we intercept and transport an order to a new shipping address (i.e., other than the one currently chosen) you will incur an administrative fee of at least twelve dollars and thirty- five cents ($12.35) as well as any increases in the shipping fees and other charges UPS may impose. You consent to these fees and charges being charged against the credit card used for the transaction.

We will make every effort to adhere to the estimated shipping schedule and delivery date for your order. However, equipment failures, technical problems, shipping delays and other problems beyond our control may delay the printing and delivery process. Under such circumstances rush charges and other production fees may be waived or refunded as applicable, however, such delays are not grounds for cancellation of an order. By placing an order with WGprinters you are agreeing that we are not responsible or liable for, and no refund, cancellation or credit will be due as a result of shipping company delays, acts of God, weather conditions, environmental or dangerous goods incidents, perils of the air, public enemies, public authorities acting with actual or apparent authority, acts or omissions of customs officials, authority of law, quarantine, riots, strikes, work stoppages or slowdowns, or other labor disputes or disturbances, civil commotions or hazards incident to a state of war, local or national disruptions in ground or air transportation networks or systems due to events beyond our control, disruption or failure of communication and information systems, disruption or failure of utilities, international customs issues, any other circumstances that are beyond our direct control.

Please take note that if you choose a residential address as your delivery address the carrier will typically not require a signature at the time of delivery and the package may be left at the address. If you require a delivery signature, please contact Customer Service.
